Porcelain Over Natural Stone
TILE STORIES
Hi Friends!
The temperature has cooled down and it’s FINALLY California sweater weather (at least in the mornings!) November is always a busy time as we are entering holiday season and people are running around trying to finish their projects before Thanksgiving. Here are some materials that are inspired by the season and a little pro/con list about porcelain tiles. Porcelain is known for being budget friendly but with the current technology, you don’t always have to sacrifice beauty to specify something within your budget.
Let me know what you are working on - I would love to be a part of your next project!
See you soon!

The Pros and Cons of Selecting Porcelain Over Natural Stone
Natural stone will always have my heart but let’s face it, sometimes we just need a material that is easy to clean and to maintain. Here at Saxum, we have a beautiful curated collection of marble- look porcelain and here are a few pros and cons to selecting porcelain over marble.
PROS
Porcelain never needs sealing and is stain proof
Color and veining are generally consistent with the sample.
Larger size options. Typically marble tiles max out at around 24 x 24 and then you enter into slab territory. Porcelain tiles are widely available in 24 x 48 or 39 x 39 in addition to slab sizes.
Anti-Slip finishes. There are many tiles on the market offered with an anti-slip finish while still presenting a smooth to the touch surface.
The cost of porcelain is less expensive.
CONS
Lacks the depth of natural stone (Pro tip: polished porcelain looks the best!)
Trim options for porcelain are slim. Schluter, mitered edges or bullnose are your only options.
All of the materials in the photos below are porcelain!
